Operational roles are safety critical and therefore it’s important that you are located close to our depots so that you can respond to emergency issues quickly. If you don’t live within the postcode perimeter for the role, we will ask you to agree to relocate into the area at your own expense.

You don’t need to revise before attending the session, however you can access Practice Tests by going to www.shldirect.com and selecting Practice Tests.
These Practice Tests will provide you with an understanding of the format of the types of tests that you will be undertaking.
You can also view example questions for either verbal and/or numerical Reasoning Tests from the menu, by completing a very brief registration form. The tests that you will complete online will be varied levels of complexity, so please don’t panic before the assessment!

The pre-employment medical includes an alcohol and drugs test. There is a requirement for you to give a sample of urine and perform a breath test, under medical supervision.
Having gained operational experience in the role of Craftsperson, the opportunity may also arise, depending on the needs of the business, to develop into the role of Technician. These are staff with additional operational and safety responsibilities on the High Voltage System.

Your paid annual leave entitlement will be 26 days per holiday year, rising to 27 days after 5 completed years of service and 28 days after 10 completed years of service, to be taken by mutual agreement between yourself and the Company. Your holiday year will be based on your birth date and will run from the first day of the month in which your birth date falls to the last day of the month immediately preceding your birth date in the following year.
Your paid annual leave entitlement will be 23 days per holiday year, to be taken by mutual agreement between yourself and your manager. This will increase to 24 days after 2 years complete service and 26 days on appointment to a substantive role. Your holiday year will be based on your birth date and will run from the first day of the month in which your birth date falls to the last day of the month immediately preceding your birth date in the following year.
